Catherine Ford was born Bloomsbury in London. Since her father's death the family of Ford, they were managed by her grandmother, mom, and godparents. Ford suffered from anxiety disorder caused by words as a young teenager. Ford was first attracted to acting at the age of teenager and enrolled in the National Youth Theatre. Ford was accepted to Sylvia Young Theatre School but after a week, she decided that she was not a fit. Ford then applied for a spot at the Central School of Speech and Drama and was accepted on her 4th attempt. Her classmate included Shaun Dingwall, who would play a part in the role of Pete Tyler in Doctor Who. Ford was not able to complete her degree until 1993. However, in 1991, Ford had made her debut on television in an episode of Surgical Spirit. At that point, Ford adopted the stage name Catherine Tate. Tate appeared in TV shows such including The Bill, Men Behaving Badly, and London Burning. Tate was also a regular performer as a theatre actor and was eventually a part of in the Royal Shakespeare Company during its season of 2000-2001. Tate gained recognition as a stand-up comedian, which has been added to her repertoire in the year 1996.
